Duplex Projekt – Given vs Ray Di0de

Duplex projekt was a grant project funded by the Australia Council and was an innovative sound art and broadcasting project exploring the dynamic of sound and artists working together from remote isolation.  It combined live to air radio performance with inter-continental communications. By linking 2 radio studios via ISDN, 2SER in Sydney and Antenne Münster in Germany, Given and Ray Diode were able to broadcast live to air, while simultaneously mixing each others broadcast feed.

Utilizing 5 Cd players, 2 mini disc players, an Akai MPC 2000xl sampler and one laptop.

The recording of which was then edited and then distributed in Australian electronic music publication Cyclic Defrost.

There are many repetitive passages, but, like half-hearted, broken memories, the effect is isolating and terrifying. This is music of the soul, drenched in thick, black cylindrical reverberations that cast themselves larger than life-size. (4.5/5)
